Dive into Hair Care: Keeping Your Locks Lovely During Swim Season
Where are all my mermaids??? It's that time of year again—sun, swim, and endless fun in the water! Let’s talk some tips and tricks to keep your hair healthy and vibrant all summer long!
1. Pre-Swim Prep: The Power of Protection
Before you dive in, let's get your hair prepped! It’s like applying sunscreen—protection is key!
Wet your hair with fresh water before diving into the pool or ocean. This helps reduce the amount of chlorinated or salty water your hair absorbs.

Saturate your hair with a leave-in conditioner or hair oil. This creates a barrier that protects your hair from harsh chemicals and salt.
2. Post-Swim Care: Rinse, Rinse, Rinse!
Once you’re out of the water, before you bask in the sun—your hair needs attention!
As soon as possible, rinse your hair with fresh water to remove chlorine or salt. If there's a shower nearby, use it!
Use a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove any buildup, but don’t overdo it. Too much can strip your hair color and natural oils.
Follow up with a deep conditioning treatment to replenish moisture and shine!
3. Hydration is Key: Inside and Out
Keeping your hair hydrated is crucial!
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Your hair needs hydration to stay healthy, just like your body!
Use a hydrating hair mask weekly. I love the VoCE Natural Shea Butter & Hibiscus Hair Mask! We have it on our shelves!
4. Style Smarts: Less is More
During swim season, give your hair a break from heat styling and harsh treatments.
Air Dry: Embrace your natural texture and let your hair air dry. Beachy waves are always in!
Braid It Up: Opt for braids, buns, or ponytails to keep your hair manageable and reduce tangling.
Sun Protection: Just like your skin, your hair can get sunburned. Use hair products with UV protection or rock a hat. My favorite UV protection is Moroccan Oil Protect and Prevent Spray! It helps keep hair color from fading or becoming brassy by protecting it from exposure to environmental factors that weaken the hair.
5. Regular Trims: Snip Snip
Swimming can lead to split ends, so keep your hair in top shape with regular trims.
Schedule Trims: Every 6-8 weeks, book an appointment to trim those ends. It keeps your hair looking fresh and prevents breakage.
Swim season is all about fun in the sun, and with a little extra care, your hair can stay as vibrant and healthy as your summer glow. Remember, the key is protection, hydration, and a bit of TLC. So go ahead, dive into those waves and make a splash, knowing your hair is ready for all the fun!
