Getting Ready for Your Hair Color Appointment: A Fun and Easy Guide

Ready for a new look? Just break up and ready to change your whole vibe? A touch-up on your beautiful color? Being prepared for your hair color appointment can make all the difference! Here is a to-go guide for getting ready for your salon visit at LotusHBS!

1. Consultation

When you book your appointment, fill out our consultation form! Appointments will only be accepted when we have a completed form.

We need a complete hair history, including any previous color treatments or if you use henna. This information is crucial because it helps us understand the current condition and composition of your hair. Different color treatments like box color, hair color from Sally’s, and henna, can react differently with new dyes and chemicals. Knowing your hair’s history allows us to choose the best approach while avoiding any bad reactions, unexpected results, and damage.

Share your hair dreams, answer questions honestly, and attach some inspiration photos so we’re both on the same page!

2. Know the Drill

Hair coloring can be a big process, especially for major changes! It might take a few steps, multiple appointments, and a bit of time, especially if you're going from dark to light. We love that you have a vision, but remember that some hair transformations take time. Trust your stylist’s expertise and enjoy the journey to your perfect color.

3. Sensitive? Let us know!

When consulting for hair color treatments, it’s crucial to communicate any scalp sensitivities, eczema, or psoriasis to us. These conditions can significantly impact how your scalp reacts to hair products, and we can take necessary precautions to ensure your comfort and safety. By sharing these details with us, you help your stylist provide a personalized hair color experience that prioritizes your scalp health.

4. Hair Prep 101

2 weeks before your appointment:

  • Skip the Heat: Cut back on using heat styling tools to keep your hair healthy.

  • Deep Condition: Treat your hair to some deep conditioning to keep it moisturized and strong.

4 weeks before you appointment:

  • NO Chemicals: DO NOT do any other chemical treatments for at least 4 weeks before your appointment.

  • Do not make any changes to your hair after your consultation.

  • Consultations must be re-done after 30 days if you do not book or must cancel your appointment.

5. Clean Hair, Please

It is an old wives tale to come to your color/lightening appointment with dirty hair. It does not protect the hair. Clean hair allows the color to penetrate more evenly and effectively. Hair free of dirt, product buildup, and excess oils will result in more vibrant and consistent color.

  • Wash your hair the night before or morning of your appointment.

  • If you have a sensitive scalp, wash 24 hours before your appointment.

  • Do not scratch your scalp!

  • Please arrive with completely dry hair.

6. Dress the Part

It is important to dress accordingly for your appointment because the chemicals used in hair coloring can potentially damage jewelry, clothes, and accessories. To avoid any mishaps, opt for something comfortable but avoid wearing hoodies and large earrings.

7. Plan for Aftercare

Invest in color-safe shampoos, conditioners, and treatments (especially a heat protectant) that will help your new color last longer and stay gorgeous!

8. Think Ahead

Schedule your next appointment for touch-ups or adjustments before you leave the salon. Consistent visits are key to maintaining your fabulous new look.

Conclusion

Your hair color appointment can be fun and stress-free by following this list! Be honest when communicating with your stylist, understand the process, and take good care of your hair. You will achieve a stunning, long-lasting hair color transformation!

Love, Meghan
